Master Luis Marques' inverted words.

Post by Victor on 27/1/2010, 11:15 pm

Recently on his official account, Master Luis Marques tweeted a small quote that only can be read inverted, if you literally twist your head upside down.

Here is the original text that he shared:

slɐʇɹoɯ ɟo ƃuıpuɐʇsɹǝpun pǝʇɹǝʌuı ǝɥʇ uo ʎʇıɹnd sʇı sǝɔɐɹqɯǝ puɐ uoıʇdǝɔɹǝd sǝʌıǝɔǝp ʎʇılɐǝɹ ǝɹǝɥʍ ɯlɐǝɹ pǝʇsıʍʇ ɐ sı ɥʇnɹʇ ɟo ɯopƃuıʞ ǝɥʇ

What are your own interpretations of his words in this small text?

Re: Master Luis Marques' inverted words.

Hm... well, to begin, it is upside-down, meaning that even the straightforward meanings could be reversed. "uoıʇdǝɔɹǝd sǝʌıǝɔǝp ʎʇılɐǝɹ"... So, perception would be tricked by reality... and only seems pure by mortals, who have it all upside-down. So... the truth is the opposite of what any normal person would expect or understand. Reality is not static, not pure. It is chaotic and filled with confusion and darkness, as well as light. "ɯlɐǝɹ pǝʇsıʍʇ ɐ sı ɥʇnɹʇ"... the truth both makes sense and doesn't make sense. It is right and it is wrong. True understanding can only be achieved through knowing that reality changes, and no truth is static. Only mortals think the world is the same for everyone. It's inverted, because the world is experienced differently for everyone....

Well, that's all the speculation I care to work out at the moment. A wonderful quote. Very symbolic in appearance and meaning. Luckily I learned to read upside down when I was a child, so I had no difficulties.

The phrase ends: "on the inverted understanding of mortals". I think Luis Marques chose to use inverted characters so that anyone reading it would see it inverted, that is, as a mortal would. This is symbolic for how humans see / interpret words of wisdom and truth that are beyond their mundane mental planes.

Thanks for bringing this up, Victor, and nice posts from both Daniel and Syrianeh. I loved reading how they interpreted these mysterious words from Luis Marques. We should do this more often together, it is a nice mental and spiritual exercise.

I have to say I agree with both of you. Most of all this quote, to me, expresses human blindness. How humans never see things in a pure way, but always twisted and inverted, to fulfill their own egos and wishes. Humans, unlike Asetians, are deeply self-centered, and that makes them see the world and life in a fake way. I believe that vampires, most particularly in the case of Asetians, can see the world and life in a much deeper way, they can see what other beings cannot, almost like the big picture instead of just the small different parts that humans can grasp. They can see the hidden truth that Luis Marques talks about. Just like the Asetian tradition that will only unveil its secrets, truths and beauty to the worthy, because for everyone else, it will always be a twisted and inverted reality...

Reminds me of when some1 (amazing) once told me "the truth is upside down."

I immediately thought of a parallel between the dark mark's position on the wrist and the inverted words.

The fact that the Asetian Dark Mark is tattooed facing Asetian. That way the Mark is always seen perfectly by the Asetian but inverted by the common world.

It is small parallel that I saw, probably nothing, but I just thought I would post it.

I find that to be a very important observation, and I'm amazed I didn't see the connection lol. Thanks for noticing; it adds that much more scope to the quote.

Makes sense to me......for those who evolved enough the words are not inverted and for those of the lesser it is inverted. I like your observation.

The Dark Mark was the first thing that entered my thoughts when I came across that particular quote by Luis Marques. "The concept behind the meaning of his words are only to be fully understood by their own kind, just like the concept and secrets behind their divine Dark Mark", was what I thought.
